About This Role
The Humanitarian Affairs Assistant contributes to timely humanitarian response by strengthening coordination across partners, supporting needs assessments and producing situation analyses. The role works closely with cluster leads, field officers and partner agencies to ensure that affected populations receive coherent, principled and accountable assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support coordination meetings with humanitarian partners, clusters and government counterparts
- Compile situation reports, briefing notes and meeting minutes
- Assist with rapid needs assessments and field-level data collection
- Track humanitarian indicators and contribute to dashboards and 4W matrices
- Support resource mobilisation by drafting inputs to appeals and proposals
- Maintain contact lists, partner databases and incident logs
- Provide administrative and logistical support to field missions
Requirements
- First-level degree in International Relations, Political Science, Development Studies or related field
- 0–2 years of relevant experience in humanitarian, emergency or development settings
- Understanding of humanitarian principles and the cluster coordination system
- Strong analytical, drafting and reporting skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with humanitarian data tools an asset
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Swahili or another UN language an advantage
- Willingness to travel to field locations including hardship duty stations
