About This Role
The WASH Assistant contributes to improved access to safe water, sanitation facilities and hygiene practices for crisis-affected and underserved communities. The role supports field implementation, community-level coordination, monitoring of WASH infrastructure and reporting on key indicators in line with Sphere standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation of WASH activities including water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion
- Conduct field monitoring of WASH infrastructure and report on functionality and use
- Facilitate community hygiene promotion sessions and behaviour-change activities
- Coordinate with local authorities, partners and community committees
- Collect and compile WASH indicators for routine reporting
- Support assessments of water quality, latrine coverage and hygiene practices
- Assist in procurement and distribution of WASH supplies and NFIs
Requirements
- First-level degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Civil Engineering, Water Engineering or related field
- 0–2 years of experience in WASH programming, preferably in humanitarian or development settings
- Understanding of Sphere standards and WASH technical guidelines
- Strong field-based monitoring and community engagement skills
- Willingness to work in field locations and challenging environments
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Swahili or local languages an asset
